CWICE National Conference 2024

Jun 5, 2024, 11:00 AM

On June 12, 2024, we will gather with community members, child welfare professionals, academics, settlement sector professionals, immigration officials, legal service providers, national and international NGOs, and other health, education, and social services professionals for the CWICE national conference.

Taking place at Pearson Convention Centre, this year’s theme is Global Horizons in Child Welfare and Immigration: Bridging Borders and Building Futures. For us, the CWICE conference is an opportunity for cross-sector knowledge exchange and further developing partnerships that enhance services for children, youth, and families.

The day will feature a diverse array of sessions with 35+ speakers. After an Indigenous Welcoming, promptly at 9am, the event will begin with a lived experience panel. These expert speakers will provide firsthand accounts of the challenges that children and youth in the child welfare system face regarding immigration status and settlement needs. There will be a presentation from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) on Immigration Data and National Public Opinion. Our keynote speaker, Debbie Douglas, Executive Director of OCASI and 2023 Inductee to the Order of Canada will share her invaluable perspectives.

Throughout the day, attendees will have the opportunity to network. Participants will select workshops to attend in the afternoon, covering national and international focuses. These sessions enable us to delve deeper into practices and research with subject matter experts. Topics include supporting unaccompanied asylum-seeking children, legal advocacy efforts, innovative programing, emerging research, repatatriations, reunifications, and international trends in social services.

The conference will take place on June 12, 2024, at 8:30 am - 5 pm at the Pearson Convention Centre, located at 2638 Steeles Ave East in Brampton, Ontario. The cost is $175 per person, which includes refreshments and lunch.

We know it will be a robust day of learning together and invite you and your colleagues to join us for a day full of insightful discussions. For more information and to register, please visit:
